

IBEW Local 733 was founded in 1939 by a group of marine electricians who wanted a safer workplace, fair wages and, in general, respect for the service they rendered to their community through their labors. In 1939 there were no training programs, no safety regulations, no medical plans, no pension or retirement plans, and nearly half of all electricians were being killed on the job.
Because the IBEW nourished the needs of these workers, this international organization has grown from a handful of pioneers to the largest international electrical union and fraternity in the world. As brothers and sisters, we believe that ALL workers deserve the IBEW standard of living!
IBEW Local Union 733
IBEW Local Union 733 consists of 6 units across the Mississippi Gulf Coast, including Ingalls Shipbuilding, Diversicare of Moss Point , H2O Innovations, NVision, and SAIC. We have over 1,200 members including marine electricians, maintenance electricians, utility workers, nurses, CNAs, and other professional workers. We work with businesses, labor organizations, the greater South Mississippi community, and anyone else who is working toward making a better Gulf Coast. We take pride in our work and are always willing to lend a hand to the cause of good charity.
In short, IBEW Local 733 consists of its membership, which operates in a democratic fashion. The members elect officers and representatives, the members vote monthly on how to spend their union funds, and the members look out for one another on the job site. The members pay dues to support legal representation, handling of grievances, arbitration, contract negotiations, organizing, property ownership costs, and administrative fees.

The objects of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers are:
- To organize all workers in the entire electrical industry in the United States and Canada, including all those in public utilities and electrical manufacturing, into local unions,
- To promote reasonable methods of work,
- To cultivate feelings of friendship among those of our industry,
- To settle all disputes between employers and employees by arbitration (if possible),
- To assist each other in sickness or distress,
- To secure employment,
- To reduce the hours of daily labor,
- To secure adequate pay for our work,
- To seek a higher and higher standard of living,
- To seek security for the individual,
- And by legal and proper means to elevate the moral, intellectual, and social conditions of our members, their families and their dependents, in the interest of a higher standard of citizenship.

Pre-Negotiations Survey
There's a preliminary survey available for all IBEW 733 Members to help gauge how some of the health insurance changes the company is wanting to make would affect us. The survey may take 15 to 20 minutes to fill out, so be prepared. The more responses we get, the more we will be able to gauge what is beneficial or harmful for the majority of members.
You probably have some contract ideas of your own... whether it be related to safety, benefits, sick time, PTO, or any other ideas you think would make Ingalls a better workplace! Feel free to share them at the end of the survey.
Responses should preferably be submitted by May 14th, but the link will be available until June 2nd, right before our June meeting.

Get them to fill out the IBEW Local 733 Scholarship Application Form. A committe will select the top 4 applicants (based on academic achievement & merit) to receive one of FOUR available Scholarship Awards:
Three - $1,000 scholarships
& One - $2,000 scholarship
All materials must be received by June 23rd to be eligible. All terms and conditions available on the Scholarship Application Form.
